AOC is MIA.
According to a Fox News report, community leaders in Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Queens district are again urging FBI Director Kash Patel to crack down on what they call entrenched foreign gangs running brothels and pushing drugs through the neighborhood.
The Restore Roosevelt Avenue Coalition has staged several protests in recent weeks outside alleged brothels along the Roosevelt Avenue corridor, a two-mile commercial strip long marred by prostitution and violence. Police say 350 arrests tied to prostitution have been made there so far this year.
One site operates beside a bodega, another under the guise of a massage parlor — its doorway plastered with “Shut it down” signs during a Sunday protest. Demonstrators called on federal authorities to dismantle the operations.
“We are writing to your agency again, requesting an investigation and enforcement action regarding the ever-worsening situation on the Roosevelt Avenue Corridor,” the coalition wrote in a letter to Patel. The group identified eight suspected brothels, seven in Ocasio-Cortez’s district and one in Rep. Grace Meng’s, as well as five street corners where they say sex workers openly solicit.
While praising NYPD efforts, activists argue the problem is so entrenched that only federal intervention can root out the gangs and restore safety for families in the largely immigrant community.
They wrote to Patel in April, and weeks later, the FBI — working with the DEA and other agencies — arrested eight suspected members of the violent 18th Street gang for allegedly carrying out brutal beatings and stabbings to maintain control of the strip.
The coalition said the arrests showed federal authorities had listened to their past appeals, but insisted only a broader crackdown under federal racketeering and trafficking laws can dismantle the entrenched networks.
