CHAOS CONTINUES: Portland Rioters Rage in Residential Neighborhoods Despite Federal Withdrawal

Anti-police protesters continued to shut-down several neighborhoods in Portland, Oregon Wednesday night despite a withdrawal of Federal Agents protecting a courthouse downtown.

“Portlanders need to send a strong message that enough is enough,” Police Chief Lovell told reporters at Tom McCall Waterfront Park, according to KGW-TV in Portland. “This is not forwarding the goals that are going to lead to better outcomes for people of color. This movement is really powerful, but the violence has taken away from it. … This is not what Portland is about. This is not what we need in our city.”

“The protests, which have sometimes turned into late-night riots focused on the Multnomah County Justice Center and the federal courthouse, have continued unabated for more than two months since the May 25 death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis,” reports Fox News.

“I’ve never seen a summer like this,” Lovell added.

The Portland Police Department struggled to contain another night of civil unrest in the city Monday; confirming officers were repeatedly attacked with glass bottles and ball bearings.

“Members of the crowd are still not dispersing despite numerous orders to leave and opportunities to do so,” posted the Department on Twitter. “To those on N Fenwick/Lombard, disperse to the North. This has been declared a riot and you are being ordered to disperse.”

“Some of the items thrown at officers include paint, ball bearings, and glass bottles, which are all criminal acts,” adds the Portland PD.
