CHAIRMAN MOUSE: Disney's New Pride Clothing Collection Made in Anti-LGBTQ China

posted by Hannity Staff - 5.25.22

Well, someone is getting fired.

According to a report from Breitbart News, pieces from Disney’s new gay pride clothing collection are made in China —a country not exactly known for its tolerance and acceptance of the LGBTQ community.

From Breitbart News…

The Walt Disney Co.’s LGBTQ-themed “Pride Collection” fashion line features clothing manufactured in China, which continues to regard homosexuality as a mental disorder and recently announced a crackdown on “sissy” men in entertainment.

China decriminalized homosexuality in 1997, but the Communist Party still looks unfavorably upon gay people and significantly restricts displays of alleged “homosexual” or “effeminate” behavior. Communist leaders announced in September a ban on “sissy” or “girlie” men in entertainment in an effort to promote masculinity among the country’s young men.

Last year, a Chinese court ruled that the printing of the words “homosexuality is a psychological disorder,” which appeared in a university textbook used in eastern China’s Jiangsu province, was “not an error.”

“The Disney Pride Collection was created by LGBTQIA+ employees and allies at The Walt Disney Company and is a reflection of their incredible contributions and place at the heart of the company,” Disney wrote in its announcement. “We stand in solidarity with our LGBTQIA+ community everywhere.”

According to Fox Business, all proceeds from the collection up to June 30, the last day of Pride month, will be donated to various LGBTQ+ charity organizations. The company previously only donated a small percentage of the clothing line’s profits.

“The announcement comes amid Disney’s months-long battle with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and other Republican state lawmakers over the company’s public opposition to the state’s Parental Rights in Education legislation that was signed into law in March,” Fox Business reports.
