Celebrities spent much of their three-hour Oscars broadcast targeting police and social issues Sunday night, blasting law enforcement officials for “brutality” and other hot-button issues during acceptance speeches at the 93rd Academy Awards.
“I have to be honest if things had gone differently this week in Minneapolis, I would have traded in my heels for marching boots,” said ‘One Night in Miami’ director Regina King just moments into the show.
“And yes, we’re doing it maskless,” King declared. “Well, think of this as a movie set, an Oscars movie with a cast of over 200 nominees. People have been vaxxed, tested, retested, social distanced and we are following all of the rigorous protocols that got us back to work safely. So, just like as a movie set masks off and when we’re not rolling, masks on. Ok, that’s how we do it.”

“Today the police will kill three people and tomorrow the police will kill three people, and the day after that the police will kill three people because on average the police in America every day kill three people,” said another nominee.

HATE FEST: Hollywood Remains SILENT as Best Actor Winner ‘THANKS AMERICA’ at Oscars
The winner of the Academy Award for Best Actor publicly praised America during the 90th Academy Awards ceremony Sunday night, thanking the United States for “many wonderful gifts” as Hollywood looked on in stone-cold silence.
British-born Gary Oldman publicly acknowledged his adopted nation during his acceptance speech for his role portraying Prime Minister Winston Churchill in ‘Darkest Hour,’ saying the US has given him many “loves and friendships” over the years.
“I’ve lived in America for the longest time, and I am deeply grateful to her for the loves and the friendships I have made and the many wonderful gifts it has given me. My home, my livelihood, my family, and now Oscar,” said Oldman as the audience watched in silence.

KIMMEL DENIED: Late-Night Comedian told to AVOID POLITICS at 90th Oscars
The 90th annual Academy Awards ceremony is hoping to avoid a ratings disaster and refocus their spotlight back on the movie industry; with the event’s producers telling late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel and others to dial-down their political agenda and make the star-studded event “as entertaining as possible.”
After a ratings debacle for this year’s Golden Globe Awards -which heavily featured the ‘Time’s Up’ and ‘Me Too’ movement- producers behind the Oscars are hoping to avoid a similar fate; telling presenters and guests to avoid politics and focus on “great performances.”
“We want to make it as entertaining as possible — reverential and respectful but also fun and emotional,” one of the lead producers told the New York Times. “The Oscars should be a spectacle. Fun and funny and great performances.”
“It should also be a giant commercial for the movie business, which we all need to keep going,” she added.
“We certainly want to honor and respect Time’s Up and allow that message to be heard,” said one executive at ABC, which will broadcast the event. “But we’re trying to make it more planned than spur of the moment — it has its moment and then doesn’t feel like it overshadows the artists and films being honored.”
