Former national security adviser John Bolton is expected to plead guilty to unlawfully retaining classified information from his time in President Donald Trump’s first administration, according to CNN.
Bolton, 77, was indicted in October 2025 on 18 counts tied to the alleged mishandling, retention, and transmission of sensitive government information after leaving office.
The development marks a stunning turn for the longtime foreign policy hawk, who once served as one of Trump’s top national security officials before becoming one of the president’s fiercest Republican critics following his departure from the White House.
According to CNN, Bolton is now expected to formally enter a guilty plea in federal court later this month. A hearing is set for June 26 in federal court in Greenbelt, Maryland.
