Former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke raised a whopping $6.1 million on the first day of his 2020 presidential campaign last week; topping Bernie Sanders and all other Democratic candidates seeking to take-on President Trump in the coming months.
Official figures released by the O’Rourke campaign showed the liberal lawmaker took-in $6,136,763 in “online contributions” during the initial 24 hours of his bid for the White House.
“In just 24 hours, Americans across this country came together to prove that it is possible to run a true grassroots campaign for president — a campaign by all of us, for all of us, that answers not to the PACs, corporations, and special interests but to the people,” O’Rourke said in a statement.
Beto’s haul tops fellow Democrats Bernie Sanders and Kamala Harris; who respectively raised $5.9 million and $1.5 million quickly after launching their presidential campaigns.
