Senator Bernie Sanders publicly congratulated a slate of progressive Democrats after a string of primary victories Tuesday; saying their “issue-oriented” campaigns brought people together in a “fight for justice” against President Trump.
The Vermont Senator’s office released an official statement after the Bernie-backed candidates defeated a host of centrist and moderate Democrats, saying “we can most effectively oppose Donald Trump‘s extremism with strong progressive leadership.”
“Ben showed that running a progressive, issue-oriented campaign can bring all working people together in the fight for justice,” Sanders said. “That’s what Ben has done in the primary and that is what a united Democratic Party will do in the general election.”
“What the people of Maryland understand is that we can most effectively oppose Donald Trump‘s extremism with strong progressive leadership at the state and local level — and there are few progressives stronger than Ben,” he added.

BERNIE BREAKS WITH DEMS: Sanders Says Trump-Kim Summit a ‘POSITIVE STEP’
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders publicly praised President Trump’s Singapore summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un Tuesday, saying the meeting was a “positive step” towards “de-escalating” tensions in the region.
The socialist Senator broke with Democrats after Pelosi slammed Trump’s high-stakes summit as “hasty,” adding Trump’s negotiation will help minimize the risk of nuclear war across the globe.
“While very light on substance, Trump and Kim Jong Un’s meeting is a positive step in de-escalating tensions and addressing the threat of North Korea’s nuclear weapons. Congress has a key role to play in making sure this is a meaningful process, not just a series of photo ops,” tweeted Sanders.

The Senator’s comments come on the heels of Trump’s announcement that the US will halt all future war games with the South Korean military; saying the drills are too costly and too “provocative” at this sensitive time.
BERNIE GOES OFF: Sanders Thanks DC Liberals for Advancing ‘EXTREMIST IDEAS’
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders raised eyebrows throughout the nation’s capital Wednesday, thanking DC liberals for transforming “radical” and “extremist ideas” into “mainstream American ideas.”
Sanders was speaking at the ‘We the People’ summit in Washington, DC when he praised those in attendance for helping to advance his liberal message, saying his supporters have brought those “fringe ideas” to the masses.
“Many of the ideas that we talked about were thought to be fringe ideas, radical ideas, extremist ideas,” said the Vermont Senator. “Well, you know what? Because of your efforts, those ideas are mainstream American ideas.”
“I want to thank all of the groups here, because whether you know it or not, you have helped transform this country in so many ways,” he added.
