President Donald Trump will cap the week with a high-stakes summit in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where they’re expected to discuss the war in Ukraine and the broader state of U.S.–Russia relations.
The Friday meeting has drawn global scrutiny over concerns that Washington and Moscow could seek terms to end the conflict without formally involving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, leaving him only a tacit role in the talks.
Trump was asked about the meeting during Monday morning’s presser:
TRUMP: “We’re going to have a meeting with Vladimir Putin, and – probably in the first two minutes, I’ll know exactly whether or not a deal can be made.”
REPORTER: “How will you know that?”
TRUMP: “Because that’s what I do — I make deals.”
