House Speaker Mike Johnson posted a video to X on Monday featuring the Democratic Party’s favorite president, Barack Obama, blasting government shutdowns.
“The hypocrisy of Democrats on the government shutdown THEY created is UNDENIABLE and INDEFENSIBLE,” Johnson said along with the video.
“If you don’t like a particular policy or a particular president, then argue for your position,” Obama says in one of the clips. “Go out there and win an election.”
“Are some of these folks really so beholden to one extreme wing of their party that they’re willing to tank the entire economy?” Obama asks in another clip.
“Are they really willing to hurt people just to score political points?”

The federal government shut down once during Barack Obama’s presidency — from October 1 to October 16, 2013.  It all started over a budget standoff between Republicans in Congress and the Obama administration over funding for the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).
About 800,000 federal workers were furloughed, and many government services were suspended.
On October 16, 2013, Congress passed and Obama signed a bill reopening the government and raising the debt ceiling — without significant changes to Obamacare.
The Schumer Shutdown is now in its fourth week.
