Trump’s message: don’t forget what the Democrats did.
President Donald Trump signed funding legislation to reopen the federal government on Wednesday night after the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
Trump was joined by House Minority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Republican lawmakers, and business leaders during a ceremony in the Oval Office of the White House.
“Today we’re sending a clear message that we will never give in to extortion,” Trump said.
Trump also made his pitch again for nixing the Senate filibuster.
“If we had the filibuster terminated, this would never happen again,” Trump said. “And don’t forget, we have another date coming up in the not-too-distant future.”
“I just want to tell the American people, you should not forget this,” Trump said. “When we come up to midterms and other things, don’t forget what they’ve done to our country.”
“With my signature, the federal government will now resume normal operations and my administration and our partners in Congress will continue our work to lower the cost of living, restore public safety, grow our economy, and make America affordable again.”
