AT THE BUZZER: 10 Democrats Join GOP to Advance Funding Bill and Avoid Shutdown

posted by Hannity Staff - 3.14.25

The Senate officially voted to advance a seven-month government funding bill Friday night, narrowly avoiding a government shutdown.

Ten Democrats joined the GOP, averting a midnight shutdown.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer voted for the CR. He was joined by Democratic Sens. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada, Dick Durbin of Illinois, Brian Schatz of Hawaii, Gary Peters of Michigan, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, and Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, alongside Angus King — an independent from Maine, who caucuses with Democrats.

Fifty-two Republicans backed the measure, with the exception of Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).

Schumer announced he would support the bill on the Senate floor Thursday night.

“While the CR bill is very bad, the potential for a shutdown has consequences for America that are much, much worse,” said Schumer. “I believe allowing Donald Trump to take even more power via a government shutdown is a far worse option.”

President Trump commended Schumer, saying it “took guts.”

From Trump’s TRUTH Social post:

Congratulations to Chuck Schumer for doing the right thing — Took “guts” and courage! The big Tax Cuts, L.A. fire fix, Debt Ceiling Bill, and so much more, is coming. We should all work together on that very dangerous situation. A non pass would be a Country destroyer, approval will lead us to new heights. Again, really good and smart move by Senator Schumer. This could lead to something big for the USA, a whole new direction and beginning! DJT
