Embattled Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ripped Republican voters on social media during a bizarre rant Monday; claiming GOP members haven’t “experienced” these issues “first hand.”
Republicans are all upset that I’m connecting the dots between poverty and crime.
I know most of them haven’t experienced or seen these issues first hand, but I have.
This may be hard for them to admit, but poverty and crime are highly linked, both violent & nonviolent alike. https://t.co/4t34dCLZlw

I take this issue seriously. Unlike many of GOP pundits theorizing from suburban homes, I’ve had multiple family members shot, shot at, stabbed, etc.
Crime + community violence isn’t some thought experiment to project your thoughts & theories abt communities you’ve never met. /6

Ocasio-Cortez doubled-down on her demands to defund police departments across the United States Sunday; saying “crime is a symptom of a diseased society” that cannot be solved with “police.”
“Crime is a symptom of a diseased society that neglects its most marginalized people, and we do not solve that problem with police,” said the Congresswoman.
“Do we think this has to do with the fact that there’s record unemployment in the United States right now?” she responded. “The fact that people are at a level of economic desperation that we have not seen since the Great Recession?”
“Maybe this has to do with the fact that people aren’t paying their rent and are scared to pay their rent and so they go out, and they need to feed their child and they don’t have money,” Ocasio-Cortez continued, “so they feel like they either need to shoplift some bread or go hungry.”

AOC FREEZES: Ocasio-Cortez Clams Up When Pressed About Push to ‘Defund the Police’
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez clammed up during a recent interview focused on ‘Defunding the Police,’ going silent when told “research shows more police means less crime.”
“Why take money from the police… Research shows that more police on the street means less crime,” said George Stephanopoulos.
“Well, I think, there’s uhhh… One question that is interesting here… Is that, uh, when it comes to funds, it’s not always about officers in the street. It’s about tanks… Military weaponry… Frankly, umm, have a degree, of, material resources, and war-like weaponry,” stammered Ocasio-Cortez.
Confronted w facts, @AOC tanks
Literally “Tanks!”88% of #NYPD is personnel so talk of “defund police” must include which investigative squads, precincts & surveillance units be cut 2 meet goals that r more policy oriented (eg accountability) than fiscal pic.twitter.com/Vmxbyp5VtA

“Additionally, so, when we talk about ‘Defunding’ it can show up in multiple ways,” she added.

AOC’S PLEA: People Should Be ‘Willing to Sacrifice Everything,’ All ‘Privileges’ to Defund Police
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez delivered a passioned plea to “defund” police departments across America Sunday; asking people to “sacrifice everything” and “all their privileges” to promote social justice.
“There are moments in every person’s career, where you have to be willing to say, ‘Am I willing to sacrifice everything that I have, all the privileges that I have, so that the right thing can go through?’ This is one of those moments,” said Ocasio-Cortez.
