Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche says federal authorities are actively working to identify and arrest an anti-ICE protester who was caught on video allegedly threatening to murder a federal immigration agent’s wife and children outside a New Jersey detention facility.
Speaking to Fox News after viewing the viral footage, Blanche called the threats “disgusting” and promised the suspect would face criminal charges.
“That’s a federal crime,” Blanche said. “Not only threatening the ICE officer — but think about how disgusting this individual is by threatening his wife and his children with death.”
“We see his face, and I promise you we will find him, and when we find him, we will arrest him.”
The incident unfolded outside Delaney Hall in Newark, where activists have staged daily demonstrations since Memorial Day weekend.
The protests have centered on allegations that detainees inside the facility are conducting a hunger strike to protest living conditions. Demonstrators have repeatedly attempted to block vehicles and personnel from entering and exiting the detention center, leading to confrontations with law enforcement.
In the video, a bearded protester wearing protective goggles unleashes a profanity-filled tirade at federal agents.
“I’ll kill your whole f–king family. Your whole f–king family is dead. Your children, your wife, all dead,” the man shouts.
The protester then appears to threaten a specific officer directly.
“I have your face, motherf–ker. You’re dead. Dead.”
The clip was widely circulated online after being posted by conservative commentator Nick Sortor.
Blanche expressed disbelief that the protester’s anger was directed toward an officer performing his duties.
“He was just doing his job standing there,” Blanche said.
The episode marks the latest escalation in a week of increasingly tense confrontations outside the facility.
Video from earlier demonstrations showed protesters hurling obscenities at federal officers, with some demonstrators telling agents to “shoot yourself in the head” during clashes that resulted in multiple arrests.
The Justice Department has not yet announced whether a suspect has been identified, but Blanche’s comments indicate federal investigators are actively pursuing the case.
If charged, threats against federal law enforcement officers and their families can carry serious criminal penalties.
