ADAMS OUT: Incumbent Mayor Exits NYC Mayoral Race, 'I Know I Cannot Continue My Campaign'

Mayor Eric Adams stunned New Yorkers on Sunday by dropping out of the city’s mayoral race, bowing to mounting pressure from Democrats desperate to block radical socialist Zohran Mamdani from taking City Hall.

The dramatic announcement comes after weeks of speculation over whether Adams, languishing in fourth place behind Mamdani, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa, would stay in the crowded field.

“It’s been an honor to be your mayor,” Adams said in a video filmed at Gracie Mansion, according to a transcript first obtained by The Post.

“I am proud to say that we took that victory four years ago and turned it into action — making this city better for those who had been failed by government,” he added.

Adams touted what he called his major first-term victories — bringing crime down, building housing, and confronting the city’s migrant crisis — but conceded that despite those successes, “I know I cannot continue my campaign.”

“I strongly encourage whoever takes over City Hall to continue what we’ve done,” he said.

Notably, Adams refused to endorse another candidate and instead took pointed swipes at his rivals. He warned that City Hall must not become a platform to “launder radical ideals,” in a clear shot at socialist Zohran Mamdani.

And in a draft of his remarks shared with The Post, the mayor also jabbed at Cuomo, telling voters that a politician who “repeatedly flip-flops on issues cannot be trusted.”

That part was notably omitted from the final version.

“I want to be clear, although this is the end of my campaign, this will not be the end of my public service,” Adams said in the video, released on social media.

“I will keep fighting for the city, no matter what… because I am a New Yorker and fighting for our city is just what I do.”
