At the Pentagon on Wednesday, President Donald Trump turned his remarks into a moment of raw tribute — announcing that slain conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk will receive the nation’s highest civilian honor.
“Charlie was a giant of his generation, a champion of liberty and an inspiration to millions and millions of people,” Trump declared, his voice heavy but defiant.
“I’m pleased to announce that I will soon be awarding Charlie Kirk posthumously the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”
The president then turned tender, offering sympathy to the family shattered by Kirk’s killing. “Our prayers are with his wonderful wife Erika and his beautiful children,” Trump said.
But in classic Trump fashion, he promised the moment would not be small. “The date of the ceremony will be announced, and I can only guarantee you one thing, that we will have a very big crowd. Very, very big.”
