The 29-year-old Uzbekistan native who mowed down innocent pedestrians and bicyclists in New York City on Tuesday had been planning the attacks for weeks, even visiting the location to gather intelligence before launching his deadly assault.
According to Fox News, NYPD investigators confirmed that Sayfullo Saipov had been plotting the terror strike for weeks, and bragged to officers that he was “proud” of the attack that took the lives of eight people and injured a dozen more.
Sources close to the investigation say Saipov entered the United States in 2010 using the ‘Diversity Visa Lottery Program’ and had planned his assault for “multiple weeks,” touring the bike path and leaving behind a would-be suicide note that stated “Islamic State Will Endure Forever.”
An official in the NYPD told Fox News the terrorist “followed almost to a T” the instructions published by ISIS’ media outlet detailing how jihadists can launch vehicle-based attacks against Western targets. Multiple knives were recovered from the rental, but were not used in the rampage.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo praised New Yorker’s resilience following the incident, saying a “depraved coward” intended to “instill terror” throughout the Big Apple but failed, saying, “There was no grand statement that was done. It was an act of a coward.”
