President Donald Trump confirmed Tuesday that Iran shot down an American Apache attack helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz, marking another dangerous escalation in the growing Middle East conflict.
“I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump wrote on TRUTH Social.
“There were two pilots involved, both are safe and uninjured. Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack,” he added.
The president did not immediately provide additional details about how the aircraft was brought down or what kind of response the United States is preparing.
The incident comes as tensions across the region continue boiling over, with Iran and Israel exchanging missile strikes while U.S. forces remain on high alert throughout the Persian Gulf.
