BLUE STATE BUST: FBI Raids Virginia Dem Power Player In Pot Probe [WATCH]

posted by Hannity Staff - 5.06.26

The FBI descended Wednesday on the office of one of Virginia’s most powerful Democratic lawmakers in a stunning federal corruption probe that is sending shockwaves through the Commonwealth’s political establishment.

Federal agents executed court-authorized criminal search warrants at the Portsmouth office of state Sen. Louise Lucas, a longtime Democratic power broker and close political ally of Abigail Spanberger, according to federal law enforcement sources.

At the same time, FBI agents and a SWAT team raided a nearby cannabis dispensary co-owned by Lucas as part of an investigation tied to alleged corruption and illegal marijuana sales, sources told Fox News.

At least three people were detained during the coordinated raids.

The warrants were approved by a federal judge, who determined investigators had established probable cause to conduct the searches.

Lucas arrived at her office while agents were actively carrying out the raid and told Fox News she did not know why the FBI was there.

The dramatic federal operation instantly intensified scrutiny on Virginia Democrats and delivered a major political headache for Spanberger, who campaigned alongside Lucas during the 2025 governor’s race.

A spokesperson for Spanberger confirmed the governor was aware of the law enforcement activity but declined to go further.

“The Governor is aware of today’s law enforcement operation in Portsmouth,” the spokesperson told Fox News Digital. “In the absence of additional details, the Governor will not be commenting on a federal investigation at this time.”

Lucas has long been viewed as one of the most influential Democrats in Virginia politics, wielding enormous influence over legislation, budgets and party operations in Richmond.

Now, that influence is colliding head-on with a widening federal investigation.

The raids also land at a politically sensitive moment for Spanberger, whose critics have increasingly accused her administration of steering Virginia sharply to the left on crime, marijuana and cultural issues in a state that was once considered a key political battleground.

Neither the FBI nor federal prosecutors have publicly detailed the precise allegations at the center of the probe.

But the use of criminal search warrants and a SWAT-assisted operation signals investigators believe the matter is serious and active.
