Tehran sent its latest proposal to end the war with the United States to Washington through Pakistani mediators Thursday, Iranian sources and state media said Friday.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has handed over the text of its latest negotiation plan to Pakistan,” Iran’s government-run IRNA news agency reported.
The details of the proposal were not immediately disclosed.
But the broad divide remains clear: Trump wants Iran to abandon its pursuit of a nuclear weapon, while Tehran wants talks on reopening the Strait of Hormuz to shipping handled first.
That makes the proposal less a breakthrough than a test.
Iran is signaling it wants relief from the pressure choking its economy and rattling global energy markets. Trump is signaling the price of relief is simple: no nuclear weapon.
