Crazy Cory Booker lost it during the Michigan Democratic Convention with a nonsensical, high-energy, sermon-like address that blended political urgency with campaign-style messaging.
Speaking for roughly 25 minutes, the New Jersey senator leaned into a preacher’s cadence, warning of a country in turmoil while calling on Democrats to mobilize.
“Ladies and gentlemen, there is a storm in our nation,” Booker declared. “There is darkness and wind. People are getting hurt.”
The moment had the feel of more than just a convention speech.
It felt like an audition.
Booker was one of several high-profile Democrats from outside Michigan to take the stage, alongside Kamala Harris and Andy Beshear — all names already circulating in early conversations about the 2028 presidential race.
Booker urged Democrats to become “foot soldiers for democracy,” framing the stakes in stark, almost apocalyptic terms while pressing for unity and turnout.
“What we need is not from on high,” Booker said. “We need foot soldiers of our democracy who in times of trial are willing to stand up.”
He closed with a sweeping call to “redeem the dream of America,” punctuated by a series of rapid-fire questions aimed at rallying the crowd.
“Will you stand for our democracy? Will you stand to get out the vote?” he asked. “Will you stand together, unified, strong?”
The speech also doubled as a reintroduction.
Booker highlighted his personal story and ties to the Great Lakes region, signaling an effort to connect with Michigan voters ahead of a critical election cycle.
At one point, he sharply criticized voters who sat out past elections over partial disagreements with Democratic candidates.
“You may disagree with her on 10% of her views,” Booker said, “but you let someone get in office who you disagree with on everything.”
Turning Michigan’s iconic mitten shape into a metaphor, Booker pushed for a more aggressive posture from Democrats.
“I don’t want the Michigan hand… I want the Michigan fist,” he said, calling for unity, action, and urgency.
