President Trump unloaded on New York City’s mayor Thursday night, accusing Zohran Mamdani of taxing the Big Apple into decline.
In a fiery TRUTH Social post, Trump said his hometown is headed in the wrong direction under Mamdani’s leadership and warned that Washington should not help subsidize bad policy.
“Sadly, Mayor Mamdani is DESTROYING New York! It has no chance!” Trump wrote.
“The United States of America should not contribute to its failure. It will only get WORSE. The TAX, TAX, TAX Policies are SO WRONG. People are fleeing.”
He added that City Hall “must change their ways, AND FAST.”
“History has proven, THIS ‘STUFF’ JUST DOESN’T WORK.”

The broadside came after New York Gov. Kathy Hochul proposed an added tax on owners of second homes in the city valued at $5 million or more.
The proposal would reportedly affect about 13,000 units and could raise as much as $500 million annually as Mamdani seeks Albany’s help to close a major budget gap.
Mamdani has also pushed higher taxes on top earners, corporations, and households making $1 million or more, arguing wealthy residents should shoulder more of the city’s costs.
Critics say the strategy risks driving residents, capital, and jobs elsewhere at a time when affordability remains a central issue in New York.
Trump’s comments are especially notable given his previously cordial relationship with Mamdani after the two first met in the Oval Office.
Now the tone has changed.
The clash also highlights a broader national fight over whether high-tax, blue-city governance can survive mounting budget pressures, public safety concerns, and migration to lower-tax states.
