President Donald Trump is moving to address mounting airport disruptions, announcing he will sign an emergency order to ensure TSA agents are paid as the DHS shutdown drags on.
In a TRUTH Social post Thursday, Trump said he would direct Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin to immediately begin paying Transportation Security Administration workers.
The move comes as TSA employees face a second month without pay, contributing to staffing shortages and longer wait times at major airports.
“Because the Democrats have recklessly created a true National Crisis, I am using my authorities under the Law to protect our Great Country,” Trump wrote.
He added that the order is intended to “quickly stop the Democrat Chaos at the Airports,” while acknowledging the complexity of acting outside the normal appropriations process.
The administration is looking to existing legal authorities to execute the plan.
Under the National Emergencies Act, the president can redirect certain unspent government funds, a mechanism that could allow temporary payments to TSA workers without immediate congressional approval.
