The internet never forgets…
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is facing renewed scrutiny as past comments clash sharply with his current stance in the escalating fight over Department of Homeland Security funding.
Back in 2015, Jeffries took to the House floor with a blunt warning: failing to fully fund DHS would amount to “legislative malpractice.”
“We are here today to do a single job, and that should be to fund fully the Department of Homeland Security,” Jeffries said at the time.v“Anything else is an abdication of our responsibility. Anything else is an act of legislative malpractice.”
Fast forward a decade, and the position has flipped.
Jeffries is now helping lead Democratic resistance to a full-year DHS funding bill, aligning with Chuck Schumer and others who are demanding sweeping immigration enforcement reforms before backing additional funding.
“Taxpayer dollars should be used to make life more affordable for the American people, not brutalize or kill them,” he said in February, adding that ICE is “out of control.”
