Update: The FBI has released the video —>

Federal authorities released a surveillance image Tuesday showing a masked individual investigators described as a subject of interest in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, as agents said they recovered previously inaccessible footage tied to the morning she vanished.

In a post on X, FBI Director Kash Patel said investigators and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department worked with private-sector partners to recover images or video from Guthrie’s home that may have been “lost, corrupted, or inaccessible,” including because recording devices were removed. Patel said the footage was recovered from “residual data located in backend systems.”

“Working with our partners – as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance,” Patel wrote.

Authorities have previously said the lack of usable doorbell-camera video was a major setback early in the case, and that investigators were still trying to recover any available data.

Officials urged anyone with information to contact law enforcement as the investigation continues.
