SANCTUARY SHOWBOATER: Mamdani Slams ICE, Inks Pointless ‘Executive Order’

posted by Hannity Staff - 2.06.26

Mayor Zohran Mamdani used a city interfaith breakfast Friday to launch a scorched-earth attack on federal immigration enforcement, calling ICE a “rogue agency” and likening agents to an invading force — before signing an executive order that appeared to largely restate existing New York City sanctuary policies.

“Day after day we bear witness to cruelty that staggers the conscience,” Mamdani said. “Masked agents paid by our own tax dollars violate the Constitution and visit terror upon our neighbors. They arrive as if atop a pale horse, and they leave a path of wreckage in their wake,” he added. “It is a manifestation of the abuse of power.”

After the remarks, the first-term mayor announced he was signing an order he said would “uphold” protections for New Yorkers regardless of immigration status — including a requirement that ICE obtain a judicial warrant before entering city property.

“We will make it clear once again ICE will not be able to enter New York City property without a judicial warrant. That means our schools, our shelters and our hospitals,” Mamdani said.

But the move drew skepticism even as it was announced: the city’s sanctuary laws already bar ICE from entering city property without a warrant, and the full executive order was not immediately released for public review.

Critics argue the mayor’s rhetoric paints law enforcement as villains while dodging the core issue — whether New York will cooperate with federal authorities tasked with enforcing immigration law — and that the signing amounted to political theater more than new policy.

Mamdani also used taxpayer dollars to print up 30,000 anti-ICE guides in 10 languages.
