NEWSROOM NERVES: Washington Post Braces for Mass Layoffs, 'Significant Actions' Announced

posted by Hannity Staff - 2.04.26

The Washington Post instructed employees to stay home on Wednesday morning and log in at 8:30 a.m. ET Zoom webinar as the company prepares to announce “significant actions across the company,” according to an internal email from Executive Editor Matt Murray and HR chief Wayne Connell.

Layoffs have been widely expected, with reporting suggesting the sports desk could be among the hardest hit and that cuts could reach around 300 employees.

Separately, The Guardian reported Murray described the changes as a broad “strategic reset,” with restructuring that includes ending the current iteration of the sports desk (with some staff remaining on a new team), reducing international coverage, overhauling local coverage, and suspending the daily “Post Reports” podcast.
