Authorities in Ottawa County are on the scene of a massive pileup along westbound I-196 near Hudsonville, with at least 100 cars involved, according to Ottawa County Dispatch.
FOX 17 reports the wreck is sprawling — and still unfolding.
In a press release, the Sheriff’s Office said the incident began at approximately 10:19 a.m., when deputies were called to the area after reports of numerous crashes and slide-offs. The chaos reportedly includes several jack-knifed semi-trucks, turning the westbound lanes into a full-blown danger zone.
From Fox 17:
Deputies say a number there are between 9 and 12 total injuries, and no one died. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with members of Michigan State Police and the Zeeland Police Department to get those injured to area hospitals.
Deputies say both directions of I-196 are closed between the Hudsonville exit of 196 and the Zeeland exit of 196. Drivers are encouraged to avoid this stretch and avoid travel completely, unless necessary.
