Could Jersey go red?
For the first time, a mainstream poll has found New Jersey Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli in a dead heat with Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) after months of surveys showing the Democrat with a comfortable lead.
The Emerson College Polling/PIX11/The Hill survey pegged both candidates at 43% support, with 14% of voters undecided or backing someone else.
The results mark a dramatic tightening of the race heading into the final stretch and come shortly after Ciattarelli’s campaign launched a new round of TV ads, including one highlighting Sherrill struggling to answer a question about her legislative priorities.
“Wow!!! A just out poll has Jack Ciattarelli essentially beating close to incompetent Mike Sherrill in the race for Governor of New Jersey,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Jack is tough on crime and cutting taxes, two things that people really demand today. He will be a GREAT Governor.”
Most polls still show Sherrill with an advantage. She currently leads by 6.6 points in the RealClearPolitics polling average.
Outgoing Gov. Phil Murphy, a Democrat, entered Election Day in 2021 with a 7.8-point RCP lead over Ciattarelli — but the aggregate ultimately underestimated Republican support by about 5 points.
