Nearly one year after the toxic train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, President Joe Biden will finally visit the community, a White House official confirmed on Wednesday.
Biden faced heavy criticism in the weeks and months after the tragedy for not showing up; Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was also delayed in responding.
Former President Donald Trump, who visited East Palestine shortly after the disaster, blasted Biden on TRUTH Social, suggesting now may not be the best time for a visit.
“With the World blowing up around us, with the Middle East on FIRE, Biden has finally decided to visit East Palestine, Ohio, a year late, and only to develop some political credibility because EVERYTHING else he has done has been such a DISASTER,” Trump said. “I know those great people, I was there when it counted, and his reception won’t be a warm one. Worst President in History!”
From Fox News:
Earlier this month, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked whether President Biden still had plans to visit East Palestine, Ohio. She told reporters, “The president will visit when it’s most helpful to the community.”
Fox News reached out to East Palestine Mayor Trent Conaway to find out when he thought the most helpful time would be, and he told Fox News, in “my personal opinion the best time for him to come would be February of 2025 when he is on his book tour.”
Yikes.
