According to The New York Post, former President and 2024 candidate Donald Trump was found liable for sexual abuse and defamation by a federal jury in the case against E. Jean Carroll.
From The New York Post:
Carroll, 79, held her head down as the verdict was read — and nodded when she heard the jury finding in favor of her claim that trump, 76, defamed her when he branded her a liar when she spoke out about the assault.
Watchers in the Manhattan federal court gallery cried tears of joy when the verdict finding Trump liable for sexual abuse.
The nine-person jury — three women and six men — decided the case after three hours of deliberations that began just before noon Tuesday.
The jurors rejected Carroll’s claim in her 2019 suit that Trump, 76, had raped her, but found him liable for sexual abuse. Carroll, 79, had accused Trump of attacking her in a fitting room at the Fifth Avenue department store, most likely in 1996.
Before the decision, Trump shared the following on TRUTH Social: “Waiting for a jury decision on a False Accusation where I, despite being a current political candidate and leading all others in both parties, am not allowed to speak or defend myself, even as hard-nosed reporters scream questions about this case at me. In the meantime, the other side has a book falsely accusing me of Rape, & is working with the press. I will therefore not speak until after the trial, but will appeal the Unconstitutional silencing of me, as a candidate, no matter the outcome!”
After the decision, Trump shared his thoughts on TRUTH Social: “I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHO THIS WOMAN IS. THIS VERDICT IS A DISGRACE – A CONTINUATION OF THE GREATEST WITCH HUNT OF ALL TIME!”
Famed attorney Alan Dershowitz has stated there are “several ways for Trump to appeal.” Trump’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina told the jury during his closings that Carroll’s claims were a “work of fiction.”
