Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg stopped by CNBC’s Squawk Box to speak with host Joe Kernen about the recent Inflation Reduction Act celebration on the same day the economy got clobbered by a bad inflation report.
“Was it clear to you at the time that [the ceremony] was a mistake? To be popping champagne corks, [talking] about conquering inflation on a day when the stock market..was down almost 1,300 points…after another really horrific inflation report. Did you say to yourself at the time ‘what are we doing? this looks really bad,” Kernen asked, adding that the whole event seemed really tone deaf.
Buttigieg doesn’t see it that way: “Nobody is saying we don’t have any problems.”
But that’s exactly what Democrats are saying.
