Governor Ron DeSantis aimed to keep Florida free of mandates, shutdowns and restrictions due to COVID —and according to new tourism numbers, Americans really liked that idea.
118 million Americans flew south to FLA in 2021 for a little taste of Florida freedom. The Sunshine State was also the number one U.S. destination for international travelers.
DeSantis shared the news on Twitter:
“In 2021, nearly 118 million Americans visited Florida, the highest number of domestic travelers in the history of our state. Our fellow Americans know that, in Florida, they can expect sunshine, great hospitality, and freedom.”

DeSantis has previously said that “Florida is a free state. We reject the biomedical security state that curtails liberty, ruins livelihoods and divides society. And we will protect the rights of individuals to live their lives free from the yoke of restrictions and mandates.”
#Florida is open for business, welcoming nearly 118 million domestic visitors in 2021, and surpassing pre-#Pandemic visitation levels for two quarters in a row. https://t.co/15doISSj2U
