Florida Governor Ron DeSantis joined 22 other Republican governors this week and confirmed he will end $300 per week payments to unemployed residents who refuse to return to the work force.
“Florida’s Department of Economic Opportunity announced Monday that the state will withdraw from the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation Program. Florida will be the 23rd state to terminate the weekly payments, enticing people to return to the job force instead of relying on weekly government support to continue to stay home. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis confirmed this week that he will issue a pardon to any resident of the Sunshine State charged with a crime for violating CoVID-19 regulations and rules during the pandemic.
The Republican made the announcement on Fox News Wednesday.
“It’s a total overreach,” he told Laura Ingraham. “These things with health should be advisory, they should not be punitive.”

“He broke the news of his pardon directly to Mike and Jillian Carnevale, who faced up to 120 days in jail for repeatedly allowing people to forgo masks at their gym in Plantation in Broward County,” writes the New York Post.
“I’m glad you have Mike and Jillian on, and I’m also glad to be on to be able to say that effective tomorrow morning, I’m going to sign a reprieve under my constitutional authority,” the governor said.
“So that will delay the case for 60 days against both of them, and then when our clemency board meets in the coming weeks, we’ll issue pardons not only for Mike and Jillian, but for any Floridian that may have outstanding infractions for things like masks and social distancing,” he added.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis confirmed Friday his administration will lift the remaining restrictions on bars and restaurants to boost business during the Coronavirus pandemic and the upcoming holiday season.
“Florida is lifting all coronavirus restrictions on restaurants and bars effective immediately, and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said he is also prohibiting local governments from closing businesses or imposing any restrictions without justification,” reports The Hill.

“There will not be limitations from the state of Florida,” DeSantis said. “I think this will be very, very important to the industry. Some of the local [governments] can do reasonable regulations, but you can’t say no after six months and just have people twisting in the wind.”
“We’re prepared if we see an increase,” DeSantis said. “We’re not closing anything moving forward. We have the tools in place.”
