President Donald Trump announced a historic international agreement Thursday aimed at completely disarming Hamas and removing every other armed faction from Gaza.
“Today, the Board of Peace reached a HISTORIC agreement for the COMPLETE DISARMAMENT of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza,” Trump wrote on TRUTH Social.
“This is a monumental step toward lasting PEACE and SECURITY.”
The announcement could mark the biggest advance yet in Trump’s plan to replace Hamas rule, rebuild Gaza and secure Israel against another Oct. 7-style terrorist attack.
Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye helped broker the proposal. Those countries have served as intermediaries because the United States and Israel do not negotiate directly with Hamas.
Trump said the framework would clear the way for Gaza to be governed by a new Palestinian administration working with the Board of Peace.
“This agreement is a critical step toward Gaza finally being governed by a new Palestinian government that will work closely with the Board of Peace to help the Palestinian people,” Trump wrote.
“At the same time, Israel will have the security it deserves, with Gaza no longer used as a base for terror attacks.”
