TALARICO'S TOY STORY: Texas Dem’s Fauci Christmas Post Ages Like Sour Milk

Texas Democratic Senate nominee James “Six-Gender” Talarico once called an Anthony Fauci doll the “coolest action figure” he had ever received.

Nearly five years later, Republicans have found the receipt.

Talarico’s Christmas Day 2021 post resurfaced this week as Fauci returned to Capitol Hill and invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times rather than answer senators’ questions about COVID-19.

“I got the coolest action figure for Christmas!” Talarico wrote alongside a photograph of the doll. “Thank you to all the health care superheroes working today,” he added. “Let’s help by getting vaxxed and boosted!”

 

The post was made during the height of Fauci’s celebrity, when dolls, prayer candles and other merchandise turned the federal health bureaucrat into an unlikely progressive icon.

That moment has not aged particularly well.

“Do you think James Talarico still plays with his Fauci action figure?” Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, asked Wednesday.

Conservative commentator Benny Johnson piled on.

“It comes as no surprise that James Talarico has a Dr. Fauci action figure,” he wrote.

The National Rifle Association offered its own advice: “Never trust a grown man that plays with dolls.”

Then Sen. Ted Cruz delivered the sharpest line.

“James Talarico called Fauci a superhero,” Cruz wrote. “Today, Fauci took the Fifth 111 times. Apparently accountability was sold separately.”

Fauci appeared Wednesday before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, where Republicans questioned him about COVID’s origins, gain-of-function research, school closures and his previous testimony.

He declined to answer every substantive question on advice from his attorneys.
