Anthony Fauci’s Senate stonewalling has already crossed over into the NFL.
Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio invoked the former COVID adviser Thursday when reporters asked about the team’s plans at safety.
“I’m gonna be like Fauci and just take the Fifth Amendment on all the questions,” Fangio said with a grin.
“Did you guys see that? Oh my God,” he added before suddenly remembering he was supposed to be discussing football. “What was the question?”
The room broke into laughter.
Fangio’s joke came one day after Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 100 times during a contentious Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing.
Fauci refused to answer senators’ questions about COVID-19’s origins, gain-of-function research, school closures and his previous testimony to Congress.
“On the advice of counsel, I respectfully decline to answer based upon my rights under the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution,” Fauci repeated throughout the hearing.
The Associated Press reported that Fauci used the response more than 100 times. Fox News counted 111 invocations.
