Lil Wayne has entered the White House ballroom debate.

The rap superstar praised Trump’s plan for a permanent White House ballroom during an appearance on the “Friends Keep Secrets” podcast, arguing that official Washington has spent too long pushing major performances and events onto the lawn.

“I’m so glad to hear Trump say, when they was mad at him about building the ballroom, and he was like, ‘Because everything we do we have to do it on the damn lawn,’” Wayne said.

The rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., said critics misunderstood the practical case Trump was making.

“So, people who don’t know nothing [are] hearing that thinking he’s just being Trump,” Wayne said. “No, for real, I was glad to hear him saying that.”

Wayne knows the outdoor setup firsthand.

In September 2023, he performed at then-Vice President Kamala Harris’ celebration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary. The event took place outside at the vice presidential residence at Number One Observatory Circle.

Wayne recalled that the setting felt more like a “backyard barbecue” than a major Washington production.

The experience apparently gave Trump’s ballroom pitch a famous new supporter.
