The SCOTUS decision didn’t help matters any…
A Texas hospital is under state scrutiny after advertising “Birth Packages” to expectant mothers in Mexico.
Gov. Greg Abbott has launched an investigation into Mission Regional Medical Center after Fox News reported the hospital promoted deliveries in South Texas through billboards advertising birth tourism.

The campaign, which the hospital confirmed was its own, offered deliveries starting at $3,950 for a natural birth and $5,525 for a C-section. The advertisements directed prospective patients to a website called “havemybabyinTEXAS,” which has since been taken offline.
Abbott blasted the practice in a July 7 letter obtained by Fox News.
“‘Birth tourism’ is an illegal practice that exploits the extraordinary hospitality that the United States and Texas offer to millions of foreign travelers each year,” the governor wrote.
Fox News reported that the investigation comes as state officials examine the hospital’s role in the advertising campaign.
Mission Regional Medical Center told Fox News the campaign is no longer being used and maintained that it complies with all applicable federal and state laws.
The hospital’s response comes as questions continue to swirl over the now-defunct advertisements and the marketing of birth-related services to prospective patients outside the United States.
