President Donald Trump celebrated Tuesday after the Supreme Court upheld West Virginia’s law restricting transgender females from competing in girls’ and women’s scholastic sports, calling the decision a major victory for women’s athletics.
In a post on Truth Social shortly after the ruling, Trump declared the decision a “big win” and said it validated one of the signature issues of his political campaigns.
“BIG WIN: The United States Supreme Court just RULED AGAINST MEN PLAYING IN WOMEN’S SPORTS. Wow! That takes that ridiculous situation off the table!!!” Trump wrote.
The Supreme Court ruled that states may maintain separate girls’ and women’s athletic competitions based on biological sex, upholding West Virginia’s law against legal challenges. The decision is expected to bolster similar laws that have been enacted in numerous states across the country.
Trump has long argued that allowing biological males who identify as transgender to compete in women’s sports is unfair to female athletes. During his presidential campaigns, he repeatedly pledged to keep biological males out of girls’ and women’s athletic competitions and has made the issue a central part of his education and sports agenda.
