An ICE officer is being credited with saving the life of a 6-year-old child after spotting the youngster unconscious in a Florida community pool and diving in without hesitation.
Gregory Simmonds, an officer with ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations office in Tampa, was at a community pool in Pasco County on Florida’s Gulf Coast when he noticed the child struggling in the water.
Security footage from the pool captured the dramatic rescue.
The video shows Simmonds looking toward the pool before immediately jumping into the water fully clothed and swimming to reach the child.
He quickly pulled the unconscious youngster to safety and carried the child back to the pool’s edge, where emergency lifesaving efforts began.
According to ICE, Simmonds administered CPR until the child regained consciousness.
Authorities say the child is expected to make a full recovery.
Acting Assistant DHS Secretary Lauren Bis praised the officer’s actions, calling the rescue an example of the dedication shown by law enforcement personnel.
“This officer swiftly sprung to action and delivered life-saving medical care to this 6-year-old who drowned,” Bis said.
“Our agents truly are the best of the best. They put their lives on the line to arrest the worst of the worst. Instead of demonizing ICE law enforcement, sanctuary politicians should be thanking them for removing criminals from their communities.”
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office also commended Simmonds for his quick response.
In a statement obtained by Fox News Digital, Cpl. J. Leathers said Simmonds’ “quick thinking and decisive actions” were instrumental in saving the child’s life.
“His actions directly contributed to saving the life of the child and reflect exceptional courage and selflessness,” Leathers said.
The sheriff’s office added that because of Simmonds’ willingness to act immediately during a critical emergency, the child survived and is expected to make a full recovery.
