Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden deflected criticism from his recent speaking gaffe during an interview with CNN Wednesday; blaming radio host Charlamagne tha God for being a “wise guy” in their fiery exchange.
“All of this could end up hurting the enthusiasm that you need to win among black voters,” asked a reporter with CNN.
“First of all, it was a mistake. I was smiling when he asked me the question. I shouldn’t have been such a wise guy with him. He was being a wise guy and I responded in kind. I shouldn’t have done that,” said Biden.

“I tell you if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black,” he said.
It’s unclear if Biden was referring to the host himself or the community at large.
“It has nothing to do with Trump. It has to do with the fact that I want something for my community,” said the host.

Senior Biden advisor Symone Sanders deflected a growing backlash against the former Vice President Friday after he told a national radio host “you ain’t black” if you support Donald Trump.
“The comments made at the end of the Breakfast Club interview were in jest, but let’s be clear about what the VP was saying: he was making the distinction that he would put his record with the African American community up against Trump’s any day. Period,” said Sanders.

“Vice President Biden spent his career fighting alongside and for the African American community. He won his party’s nomination by earning every vote and meeting people where they are and that’s exactly what he intends to do this November,” she added.
